"Barneys Story"
Barney was found by Mary Hines lying in the
road beside his canine friend Benji, who had
been struck by a car and killed. Faithful and loyal Barney,
refused to leave his friend, until
Benji was buried. Since that time, Barney never left Mary's
side.
Brent Atwater states,
"Barney exemplifies, 'Just plain Love!!! '.
And that's how we got
our name for the Trust!
Since 1987 he has been our official mascot. In the slides
you'll see Barney with The Honorable
Governor of NC Terry Sanford, with children, in his red silk bow
tie for those 'special' occasions,
and Barney examining his fundraising products. Barney is in Heaven
now, and represented by his
portrait.
