ATLANTA – Whether it’s
a four-legged friend or the family fish, for many,
losing a pet is like losing a member of the family.
Reporter Jennifer Mayerle found a woman who says you
don’t have to lose that pet forever.“When Rhett Butler
died, it was very traumatic,” said Mary
MacQueen.MacQueen had a difficult time losing her
beloved cat. Rhett Butler was a cat that was always
there by her side, she felt, even after death.“The
minute I turned off the light, it would feel that I
could feel paw prints walking across the bed,” said
MacQueen. It wasn’t until she got a new cat, Thomas
Jefferson, that she realized Rhett Butler may have never
left her.“He seems like an old soul. He seemed to have
so many of the same characteristics. He followed me
around constantly,” said MacQueen.Around that time, her
friend B. Brent Atwater introduced her to the idea of
pet reincarnation. Atwater is a local woman who has
written books about pet reincarnation. She’s spent the
past 15 years researching the topic and believes pets
can come back in another body.“Everybody goes, ‘What do
you mean? Pet reincarnation can’t be real.’ And I go,
‘Yes it’s real,’” said Atwater. She said her dog, Friend,
has come back five times. The most recent time was three
years ago. Friend was apparently born with a “B” like
her signature on his back.“The most important thing is
your inner urgings. If your cat or dog is going to
reincarnate to you, is going to tell you and the second
thing within the first week or month that you own them,
they’re going to display all the habits of your old
animal so you go, ‘Whoa, Fluffy’s back,’” said
Atwater.Atwater said she knows there are skeptics out
there.“I think the best way to convince someone is to
not convince them,” said Atwater.Atwater said people
need to ask their pet to come back and be open to the
idea. She’s made a believer in MacQueen.“This one has
just been so much like the other one that I think, ‘Why
not? Why not believe that part of Rhett Butler lives in
Thomas Jefferson?’” said MacQueen.Atwater said your pet
could come back as something different than before if
another animal or breed better suits your current
lifestyle.
